Maxim Bondarenko, Jordan in Love, 2026

Oil pastel on black paper

12" x 18"

"Jordan in Love" features a male figure carrying an abundance of yellow and ochre blossoms against a deep, textured background. On a conceptual level, the artwork stages a direct revolt not only against Western art history, aesthetic as a question of one's personal taste but all colonial practices as the system at its core, including "Western art heritage" as an instrument of propaganda facilitating those doctrines still in nowadays. "Playing" around paradoxes, artist uses it as his weapon against patriarchate itself. It subverts the ancient Greek aesthetic cult that equated minimized male anatomy with moral purity, a standard still quietly enforced by post-colonial social norms today. By refusing to compromise or minimize the subject's physical reality, the work operates as an unyielding human instrument against the ongoing infantilization of art and language, commodification of human life, violent deprivation of dignity and basic sense of justice. This little act of pastel defiance is an uncompromising addition for collectors who share their intolerance to imposed on society "small dick energy" (c)G. Thumberg, as well as value systemic critique and authentic, independent artistry.
